Your doctor may consider initiating a Mental Health Treatment Plan if you suffer from a mental health disorder. A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a vital tool in accessing the support you need to seek necessary psychological support from a Clinical Psychologist.
Why seek Help:

What is a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP): A MHCP is a referral provided by your GP to facilitate access to mental health support. Through a MHCP, eligible patients can access up to 10 Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions per calendar year.
Who is eligible: Your GP can access your eligibility for a MHCP. Those who qualify can receive a MHCP once every 12 months, entitling them to 10 rebateable sessions. After the initial 6 sessions, a review with your GP is required to access further four sessions.
Who is not Eligible: Patients who do not have a valid Medicare card, or patients who have already obtained a MHCP in the last 12 months are not eligible for a MHCP. After 12 months has lapsed, patients with Medicare can visit their GP to get anew plan.
How to Get a Mental Health Care Plan: Book a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’ with your regular GP. It is essential to continue seeing your usual GP for the initial MHCP and any subsequent reviews to maintain continuity of care.

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a structured approach prepared by your GP to manage and treat mental health conditions using subsidized therapy sessions.

A MHCP allows up to 10 subsidized sessions per year with a mental health professional, such as a psychologist, to provide appropriate treatment and support.
Start by scheduling an appointment with your GP who can assess your mental health needs and discuss whether a MHCP is right for you.
Yes, MHCPs can be reviewed and renewed annually by your GP if ongoing treatment is deemed necessary.
