The area to be treated is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied for 40 -50 minutes. To enhance the effect, we will cover the skin with cling wrap. A small sample of blood is taken from your arm, (exactly like having a routine blood test). Your blood is then transferred to a centrifuge machine, which spins your blood to separate the red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Once it is confirmed that the numbing cream is working, I will remove it and clean the treated area with a sterilising solution to start the injections. We are using TGA approved PRP system.
Like with any procedures there are contraindications that include blood disorders, use of blood thinning medications, active infection of the skin, pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe systemic disorders. Also, heavy smoking and alcohol consumption is unlikely to produce desirable effects.
PRP treatment is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects include mild to moderate swelling, irritation or redness and bruising. In rare cases, a skin infection may occur, which is easily treated with an antibiotic.
Results of PRP vary between individuals due to natural variation in quality of PRP. Improvement occurs gradually over 1-2 weeks. Usually, two treatments 6 weeks apart are recommended for facial treatment with a maintenance procedure after 6-12 months. For the hair loss treatment usually 3 treatments 4 weeks apart with the maintenance every 6 months is recommended.
