Doctors at Thornlie Square Medical Centre offer two types of Telehealth Service
Before you book a telehealth appointment, please note that the Medicare have strict rules as to who can access Medicare-rebateable telehealth consultations. Regular patients of Thornlie Square Medical Centre are generally eligible for a Medicarerebate following their telehealth consultation; however, we encourage you to confirm if you are eligible for a Medicare rebateable telehealth consultation before booking your appointment.
Video telehealth appointments are considered best practice and Medicare offers rebates for a wide range of video telehealth appointment types. Having My Medicare registration with your chosen Doctor at Thornlie Square Medical Centre allows you the option of Longer Video Telehealth Consultations.
Telehealth appointments are best aimed at simple concerns that do not require a physical examination e.g. scripts, referrals, results review etc.
A phone telehealth consult involves a phone call to your mobile number or Landline from a GP. Medicare offers rebates for a limited range of phone telehealth appointment types and for this reason you must book phone telehealth consults through our Friendly reception team, by calling 08 6336 7077.
Sometimes Your Doctor at Thornlie Square Medical Centre might do an unscheduled call you for any Urgent results or situations needing attention to address your health care needs.
To be eligible for Medicare-funded telehealth services you must have seen your GP, or another GP at Thornlie Square Medical Centre, for a face-to-face appointment at least once in the 12 months prior to the date of your telehealth consultation.
This means that if you haven't been to Thornlie Square Medical Centre for a face to face appointment in the last 12 months, you will incur the full consultation cost as no Medicare rebate will be applied for your consultation.

If you require a physical examination from your GP for respiratory symptoms etc, your doctor will recommend and coordinate a face-to-face review which might attract a gap fee.

Medicare Claim: If your consultation attracts a Medicare rebate, we will process your rebate with Medicare following settlement of your account
If you are experiencing respiratory symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, we recommend that you book a Telehealth appointment, instead of a Face-to-Face appointment.
For Milder situations, Telehealth should assist in coordinating care & assistance needed.
In most cases, your GP will need to perform a physical examination and may need to perform a swab test on you to confirm diagnosis.
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, please wear a face mask to your face to face appointment.
If you require a script following your telehealth consultation, we can arrange for it to be sent as electronic script (e Script) to your Phone, your email we have registered on file or emailed to Pharmacy. Alternatively, it can be faxed directly to your preferred pharmacy.
If you require a referral for pathology, radiology or to a specialist or an allied health provider following your telehealth consultation, we can email you your referral or fax it directly to the relevant service if possible.
